Day 22 - Breckenridge, CO to Hartsel, CO

After another early start from our excellent Warm Showers host (Phil & Allison) in Breckenridg, right off the bat it was into the climb up Boreas Pass at 11,500'.  We were all a bit trepidatious about this climb, as it was almost 2000' higher than any previous climb. Fortunately, this one climbed up the old railroad grade, so nothing went up over 5% the whole way up, and the majority was 3-4%.  That is MY kind of long climb :-). And the scenery was spectacular!!

The only downer to the climb was the locked set of toilets at the summit. If there is a God, he was in a particularly fowl and vindictive mood this morning... C'est la vie. Fortunately, the old schoolhouse in Como, CO at the foot of the south side of the pass had some great open restrooms!  Nothing like a 10 mile bumpy downhill to make the issue a bit urgent too ;-)

After Como, we kept on southward across a high, open plateau to Hartsel, CO, where a great little cafe/saloon awaited us, and offered up free campsites in the lot behind the cafe.  Nothing like good diner food and a cold beer to end the day-
Cheers from the GDMBR:-)
